Industry Connect – Material Vendors & Manufacturers

The Interior Design Course at MMSID recognises the importance of understanding materials, products, technologies, and manufacturing processes as an essential part of professional design education. Industry Connect with material vendors and manufacturers provides students with valuable opportunities to learn directly from industry experts and gain practical knowledge beyond the classroom.

The department regularly facilitates interactions with material manufacturers, product representatives, dealers, suppliers, and vendors dealing with a wide range of interior products such as laminates, veneers, plywood, boards, flooring, carpets, wall finishes, paints, wallpapers, furniture, lighting, sanitary fittings, hardware, glass, stone, fabrics, and other specialised materials.

Through material presentations, product demonstrations, workshops, factory visits, exhibitions, sample displays, and technical sessions, students become familiar with the properties, applications, specifications, installation methods, maintenance, sustainability aspects, and latest innovations in interior materials. Such exposure helps students make informed decisions while selecting materials for their design projects.

The institute has tie-ups with prominent vendors in Pune market to allow student visits and product presentations. Below are names of a few of our partners.

Internships

The Interior Design Course at MMSID considers internships an essential component of professional education, providing students with an opportunity to experience the practical aspects of interior design in a real-world work environment.

Students are encouraged to undertake internships with interior design firms, architectural practices, design studios, contractors, consultants, material manufacturers, and related industry organisations. The internship provides exposure to the complete process of a project, from concept development and space planning to working drawings, material selection, detailing, site execution, vendor coordination, and project management.

During their internship, students get an opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals and understand the responsibilities and workflow of a design practice. They develop practical skills in design documentation, technical drawings, presentations, material applications, site supervision, client interaction, and professional communication.

Internships also help students understand the relationship between classroom learning and professional practice. Working on live projects enables them to observe how design ideas are translated into functional spaces while considering practical, technical, budgetary, and client requirements.

The department maintains a strong connection with its alumni and industry professionals, creating opportunities for students to access diverse internship experiences. These professional interactions also help students explore different career paths and develop valuable industry contacts.

The internship programme at MMSID therefore serves as an important bridge between academic learning and professional practice, enabling students to gain confidence, workplace experience, practical skills, and a deeper understanding of the interior design profession.

Every year the second year students join internships at various firms established by our alumni and other professionals. To name a few:
